“RAINBOW SUNSET VIEWS SPEO TACULAR PHENOMENON.
Dear Wendy,—Well, first of all, ] send you my best wishes for a happy and prosperous year for 1934, and ] sincerely hope that you enjoyed 1931 as much as 1 did. I rode down to the beach on December 31 on my pony, and it didn’t enjoy it, but all the same I did. My pony likes going over tha stream. Did you see the water-spoutsT I did. When 1 first saw them thera as a little knob in a cloud, and it gradually sent a thick arm-like column down to the boisterous sea. Arrrr * little while, it began to draw up agm. It was really a wonderful sight, ror the onlookers. We thought we lost our kitten. “Mero,” but turned up alright. 1 think it must have eaten a rabbit, and had a sleep under the house or somewhere. After looking everywhere ‘‘under the sun” (a nice expression, isn’t it?) we found it purring on the verandah. “Mero” was immediately taken round to his saucer, and given some milk, which it greatly appreciated. L passed into the sixth standard, Wendy, and wasn’t I glad? 1 hope that “Christmas Rose” likes her work at the secondary school. Well. Wendy, as news is getting scarce, I will close. Love from your ever true-blue Ito.—‘ ‘ RAINBOW SUNSET,” C.W.K., Westmere’. Thanks so mucih, dear, for your good wishes for this year, J 934. 1 hope xt will be one of much joy for you also. 1 did not see the water-spouts. Wonderful, aren’t they? 1 can imagine just how pleased you must have been to find that “Mero” had returned. Bravo! So you have passed, that's sple n d id. —W e ndy. X am afraid X have neglected you over tnree years now. 1 suppose you wondered what had happened to me. Weir, Here X am, safe and sound, fou have increased your number of Ites a great deal lately. Wasn’t it awful aoout the accident to the mechanic of the “Faith in Australia ?” Sir Charles has again crossed the Tasman, X see. X have not very much news as nothing exciting has happened. X shall write again soon. With all best wishes. Love to all the Ites.—From “SUNSHINE ELF,” Marton. I am delighted to hoar from you, dear. X could not imagine what could have happened to keep you away from our Hut. Our clan has grown immensely since you were last with us, hasn’t it? The fatality in connection with the ’plane’s visit to Wanganui was dreadful. The Southern Cross seems always to be adding to an -already long list of accomplishments, doesn’t it? Yes, do please write soon.
