POSITION IN CHRISTCHURCH [ Per Press Aascclatlon. ] CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. IS. By eight votes to seven th e Christchurch City Council decided this evening not to rescind a previous resolution refusing to allow picture theatres to be opened on Christmas day. Dr. Thacker’s motion to rescind the resolution was defeated. He moved that pictures be allowed on Christinas night. Objection was raised that a notice of motion was necessary, but the Deputy-Mayor, the Rev. Archer, accepted the motion that the Standing Orders be suspended to allow further discussion. This motion was lost by eight votes to seven. At the end of the meeting Mr. Thacker gave notice of motion to call a special meeting of the council on Friday to discuss the question again.
