HUNTERVILLE
CHRISTMAS FESTIVITIES COMMENCE. Carnival on Saturday. Hunterville was gay on Saturday afternoon when the programme arranged by the Festivities Committee was opened. The Wanganui Garrison Band gave a concert during the afternoon, the band being officially welcomed by the chairman and members of the Town Board and the Festivities Committee. Meanwhile, gaily decorated bicycles, tricycles, prams and boys and girls in fancy costumes lined up in great number, while fourteen ponies were on parade to be judged. Mr. Jas. Bull acted as judge of the ponies, and Messrs. A. J. Petrie and R. M. 8. Jones of the decorations, and their task was not an easy one. Following the judging the competitors paraded the street, headed by the Garrison Band, the latter later giving a programme of music on the ground near the monument. In the evening the Hunterville Pipe Band paraded the street and gave an interesting programme. Results. The following were the results of the various competitions:— Child’s Pony: Ron Hurley .1, Marie Lourie 2, Noreen Lourie 3, Fay Jones 4. Decorated Prams: Peggy Clark 1, Doris Nicholson 2, Valerie Nicholson Tiny Tots: Betty Follas 1, Audrey Thomson and Myra Lynch 2, Hilda Knuth 3. Decorated Tricycles: Pat Gordon 1, Peter Crichton and Bob Thomson 2, Henry Ching 3. Decorated Bicycles: Kay Dukeson I, Norman Alorton 2, Heather McLachlan Fency Dresses: Girls. Bell McMillan 1, Joyce Nicholson and Eunice King 2, Christine Bull 3; Boys, Don Bartlett 1. Peter Klue and Dempsey Harford 2, Don Boayne 3.
