VIOLENCE IN CUBA
NEWSPAPER DESTROYED SEVERAL DEATHS REPORTED HAVANA, Dec. 17. Cuba’s chavti’c political situation took a violent turn to-day. An unorganised mob supporting the Government of President Grau Martin sacked aud burned the newspaper ‘‘El Pais,’’ which, had been sympathetic with the American policy of non-recog-nition of the Martin Administration. While preparing the edtion, the editorial staff was fired upon from surrounding buildings and forced to flee as thc flames spread. The mob brojte the presses and tarried away typewriters and other equipment. The emergency hospital reported that several were killed, but it is not immediately known if they were pressmen or attackers.
