PATEA

PLUNKET PETE. The Patea Plunket Society held the usual Christmas Fete on Saturday in beautiful sunshine. The procession heralded by the Patea Brass Band matched through the main street with Santa Claus fairies and the stork leading a procession decorated cars, prams, tricycles, bicycles and pets, amongst which was a miniature “Amy Johnson” in a wee “Jensen.” On reaching the Domain the Mayor (Mr Ramsbottom) officially opened the proceedings, eulogising the work of the Plunket Society. A tiny tot previously presented the Mayoress with a beautiful bouquet. During, the afternoon a brisk business was carried on at the fruit salad, ice cream, and cold drink stall, while the kiddies entrancingly informed Father Xmas of their wishes for Christmas, at the same time visiting the Xmas trees which were hung with toys for children of all ages. Ab was expected the attendance was not up to previous years and the stallholders worked very hard—as did the conductors of the sideshows—to make a -little profit. At the end of the afternoon the prizes for the decorated classes were presented by the Mayoress (Mrs Ramsbottom) the president thanking all those who had helped towards the success of the day, particularly the Patea Brass Band, the Carlyle Cycle Club for interesting races, and the many people apart from the committee who gave their time so willingly both on Friday and Saturday. The winners of the different competitions were as follow:—Lampshade (presented by Mrs Stevens) Mrs Jenkins; bride doll, dressed by Mrs Pauling), Miss N. Bond; birthday cake (presented by Waverley branch), Miss D. Carradous; sweets, (presented by Mrs J. Pearce), Mrs Smiles; chocolates (presented by Mr Roots), Rev. Sinaille; Pyrex dish (presented by Mrs Simmons), Mrs Thompson; buried treasure. Masters Clarkson and Derrett; novelty golf. Miss P. Simmons, score 11.

The judging was done by Mrs F. Searle (Wanganui), Mrs T. Campbell, to whom the committee extend their thanks TENNIS. PATEA v. HAWERA PARK.
