UNEMPLOYMENT ACT

THE TOTAL REGISTRATIONS PERMANENT WORK SCHEMES [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Dec. 14. Speaking here last night, the Hon. S. G. Smith, chairman of the Unemployment Board, said that 490,000 males had registered in the Dominion under the Act. In spite of the difficulties, he was confident that New Zealand would emerge from its problems quicker than any other country. Mr Smith referred to investigations being made by the Board to find permanent schemes of work. He said it was possible that within a very short time the Government would announce a vigorous land settlement policy.
