One of the most serious Communist riots occurred when 1500 “Reds,” marching upon the French Consulate on sth. Avenue to protest against, ‘‘war plotting towards the Soviet,” halted traffic for a quarter of a mile and battled with the police for several hours at one time vanquishing the latter. A large crowd surrounded the demonstrator*. who, however, dispersed when extra lice reserves were called up. Many men and women among the Communists, who carried large placards were severely beaten. Several arrests were made.
