Unemployment Subsidy.

The Wanganui unemployment committee has been advised that the first grant for the subsiding of work is £ll6. That means that the committee can spend that amount in subsiding work at the rate of £1 for £l. Water at Kai Iwi.

The Nukuinaru Domain Board is putting a water supply into the houses at Kai Iwi Beach. Half a dozen houses have already been connected up with the supply, and it is expected that in the near future the majority of the residence at this popular seaside resort will be connected up. Admission to Reserves.

Payment for admission to the Mowhanau Reserve (Kai Iwi Beach) and Ototoka Reserve (Okehu Beach) will be asked for on Boxing Day by the Nukumaru Domain Board. It is hoped to obain sufficient revenue to enable the Board to provide further conveniences for the public. It is only recently that the Domain Board was empowered to make a charge for admission to the reserve.

Unemployment Benefit. In making an appeal for generous giving towards the unemployment fund, the Alayor, Air W. J. Kogers, speaking at Mr H. J. Trussell’s concert at the Alajcstic Theatre last evening referred to the Minister’s statement of last week that there were over 400 unemployed in Wanganui. The money that the audience gave would carry the Government subsidy of £1 for £l. An effort was being made by the local unemployment committee to put some work in hand in the city. The concert brought in £l6 16s. Band Concerts.

Two band °concerts were given in Wanganui yesterday. The Queen Alexandra’s Own Band was playing in the afternoon at Virginia Lake before an unusually large crowd. The band was playing exceptionally well, and the audience was appreciative of their efforts. The items were well received, especially the march “Elmslie,” which was composed by the conductor, Captain Buckley. The Band was entertained at afternoon tea by Mrs Ryland, proprietress of the Tea Kiosk. At the Public Hospital the Wellington West Coast Regimental Band, under Captain Trussell, provided a programme which was much enjoyed. The Regimental Band is composed of youths who are commencing their career as bandsmen with this combination.
