Setting a terrific pace from the start and attacking continuously with almost savage intensity, Tommy Donovan, New Zealand featherweight champion, outpointed young Llew Edwards (Australia) over fifteen rounds before a West were visitors to try conclusions in Senior and Willis Shield games. crowded house. The bout was full of incident. Edwards responded magnificently to the smashing onslaughts of the New Zealander. He frequently paused in his retreat tu send home both bands in perfect inside counter punches. When Donovan, occasionally slackening his attack, gave Edwards t chance to marshal his forces, with dramatic sudderincss Edwards assailed him with a hail of snappy punches. Donovan gave a superb display of rugged fighting ami clever boxing. In close work he was too powerful for his younger but c!<>\ er opponent. Several times Edwards was warned by referee K. Meale for holding, and once he voiced his resentment of that official's attention.
Donovan won eight round, Edward* five, and two were drawn.
