CAR AND LORRY COLLIDE

CRASH AT INTERSECTION MOTORIST’S FACIAL INJURIES While he was travelling to the city from Gonvillc about 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon, Mr Kenneth Douglas, of Hamilton, travelling for the firm of Parke, Davies and Co., Ltd., became involved ina collision with a heavy lorry belonging to Staig’s Enterprises Ltd. As a result Air Douglas had to receive medical attention, being treated by Dr Cooke for a lacerated check and an injured eye. The collision took place at the intersection of Wilson Street and Ridgway Street, the lorry being on its way down Wilson Street to the railway station, carrying a load of gear from the showgrounds. The point of impact was practically at. the centre of the intersection, and inspection of the car afterwards made it appear as if the lorry had struck the lighted vehicle a glancing blow on the left-hand rear whe<?l, which was wrecked, the car being turned right round. It finally came to rest with its rear against a shop on the corner. Apart from the damage to the rear wheel the car did not suffer from the impact. The occupants of the lorry had a really wonderful escape from serious injury. As the heavier vehicle did not strike the motor-car broadside on the lorry was able to proceed on its way, though it deviated from the broad street and made for the footpath, where it managed to steer its hazardous way between a telegraph post and the wall of the shop, coming to ar stop on the side of the street. The driver was unhurt, but two men travelling on the load itself were shaken by their fall on the road.

Mr Douglas, who was Hung forward against the steering wheel of his ear, suffered cuts on the cheek and above an eye. but it was later reported that his injuries were not of a' serious nature.
