IN SEARCH OF BEAUTY
From Cleopatra to the present day, the search for youth and beauty ha;continued. JSuch foods as milk and wine, such waters as those that contain strange minerals, and the mythical fountain of youth, such cosmetics as chalk and beetroot juice have been numbered among the many beauty aids of the centuries. The fact that diet and exercise arc all-important in promoting beauty and keeping youth was not widely known or practised until the present day. And the additional fact that beauty could be ruined by impure cosmetics which were supposed to add to a woman’s loveliness was for a long time ignores. The average woman knows that increasing age, worry and overwork will bo etched on her face little by litt<-. Although she may not be able to do away with the causes, she does try to counteract their effects.
Wrinkles, for example, are the tell tale evidences of waning beauty that every women dreads to see. * Thcv can be prevented through middle age by the proper care of the skin. Tin? includes giving it the nourishment it needs, which is through lotions anc cream, as well as diet, keeping it thoroughly clean, which is done by astrin gents and water and plenty of fresh air.
Under the strain of modern industrial and living conditions we cannot depend on our own knowledge and resources to keep beauty through the years.
This is the lime when the beauty specialist, with his knowledge of how to help every woman help herself, is invaluable.
When we can all go back to the farm and face tho future as blithely as the rosy-cheeked milkmaid of fiction, we can do without cosmetics. Meanwhile it is good to know that “powder and paint” are offered by reputable firms to help tho cause of beauty, not to destroy it.
