SUBURBAN TRAINS

STRONGLY-WORDED PROTEST [ Per Press Association. ] DUNEDIN, Sepa- 24. The Otago Expansion League met to consider the situation that has arisen owing to the decision of the Railway Department to cutout all Sunday trains on the Port Chalmers line. It was pointed out that while on a plea of economy the Department was breaking faith with and seriously inconveniencing its regular patrons (ticket holders and daily travellers), it still continued to cater for Sunday travellers by excursion trains at lower rates than those charged on suburban services. The action of the Department sought to force all travellers from and to Port Chalmers to take its road service. The secretary was instructed to forward a strongly-worded protest to the Minister of Railways.
