Parapara Road. Further reference to the lower portion of the Parapara Road was made at last night’s meeting of the Wanganui and District Development League, a letter being received from the Hon. W. A. Veitch covering a reply from the Minister of Public Works (Hon. E. A. Ransom) to the effect that when the data from the present survey was in hand the Main Highways Board would consider putting into effect the improvements suggested by the League. City Council Praised. A resolution praising the Wanganui City Council on the work being undertaken in Maria Place in reducing the grade and tar sealing the surface was carried by the Development League last night. One speaker characterised that street as leading to the council’s “drawing room.” He understood that the intention was to level Watt Street also and tar seal it. Other speakers visioned the day when the area adjacent to the Alexander Museum would be the civic square. Queen Alexandra Band. Arrangements have been made for the Queen Alexandra Band to give two concerts at Raetihi on December 15. one in the open air in the afternoon and the other in the picture theatre at night. This will be the first of a series of country concerts which the band has arranged for and test music to be played Rt the forthcoming Dunedin contest will be included in the programme. Members will be transported to Raetihi by private cars, free of charge, and, during their stay in that centre, will be billeted by the citizens. The band had definitely decided to travel to Dunedin for the contest and solid practice is to be indulged in from now on to master the tests.
