DOMINION TOBACCO CROPS
A WARNING TO GROWERS. A note of caution regarding speculative crops of tobacco in New Zealand is sounded in the annual report of the directors of the National Tobacco Company, whoso headquarters are at Napier. The report states: — “With regard to the production of the raw leaf sufficient quantities an* already being grown to meet all the re quirements of the local market. Nelson growers alone received last season an aggregate of £SO,QOQ in cash from us. That figure represents a vast amount of loaf, portion of which will have to ( bo. carried over into the w season. As things are now, fanners not secured by contact putting in crops on ‘ spec’ the danger of over-production is imminent unless an outlet is found somewhere for tho surplus. The chances of export apo of the poorest, in view of the over-production in other parts of the British Empire, especially Rhodesia, where millions of pounds of superb leaf go begging for want of a market.”
