THE WEATHER. A very slight anti-cyclone is crossing New Zealand but a very intense depression is centred in the south-west of the Tasman sea and the westerly type of weather still prevails with moderate to j strong west to north winds, freshening : again shortly with gales in many places; seas rough in Cook Strait and on the west coast of the South Island, becoming rather rough in off-shore waters. The weather will temporarily be. fair to fine at first, but with a renewal of unsettled conditions later. Rain is probI able in most districts. Mild temperatures will continue.
