WHARF ABLAZE
PROMPT ACTION BY SHF"’ ° CAPTAIN t Per Press Association I WAIROA, Oct. 5. This morning a fire occurred at the wharf at Waikokopu. The steamer Make coming into port at an early hour noticed the rope shed and watersiders’ room ablaze and immediately got out the ship’s hoses. The crewquiekly subdued the flames, but not before the waiting room and shed entaining a quantity of gearw ere completely destroyed and a. piece of the wharf" decking burnt. The promptitude of the Make’s captain undoubtedly saved the wharf from destruction.
