GENERAL NEWS A Huntcrvillc rink of bowlers will visit Marton on Wednesday next, when the Marton Cub officially open the season. A meeting of Morgan Lodge of Druids was held at Huntcrvillc on Tuesday when there was a good atendance of members. One new member was initiated. Huntcrvillc School Committee has been advised by the Returning officer for Oroua that the Huntcrvillc School will be used as a polling booth at the forthcoming general election. —What’s wrong with the Scots Hall? A euchre party in aid of the Anglican Show funds w-as held on Tuesday. Mrs H. Horton and Mr D. Connell were the first prize winners, while Miss Dickie and Mr W. Frampton were the recipients of consolations. An excellent supper was provided by Mrs G. Stratford and Mrs H. Fox. At a meeting of the Hunterville School Cricket Club, Mr C. C. Southey was elected club captain in place of Miss Blackburn, retired. S. S. Powell was re-elected field captain and M. Leineweber secretary and treasurer. TENNIS The annual meeting of Hunterville Lawn Tennis Club was held in the pavilion on Wednesday. Mr G. Stratford presided over an attendance of seveteen members. The annual report and balance sheet was read and adopted. Annual Report The balance sheet of the club show’s that we are in a sound financial position. The new court has been completed and although it has not yet been played on, it appears to be in an excellent condition. The debit balance after paying for the new court, amounts to £75 8s 4d and as three courts are now available an increase in membership is assure so that the debit balance will soon be wiped out. The membership is assured so that the debit balance ing t omany resignations but the coming season promises to be most successful as many new members are joining up During the season the club engaged in matches with Taihape, Mangaweka, Bulls, Waituna and Rewa, meeting with much success. The club entered a challenge for the C Grade Shield, and although not successful, the games were very even, St. John's winning by 5 games in 15 sets. I have to thank the office bearers for the capable manner in which, they carried out their several duties during the season. Election of Officers The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr W. G. Cunningham; vice-president, Dr. D. M. Mitchell; secretary and treasurer, Miss N. Watt; captain, Mr G. Shanley; vice-captain, Miss M. Howie; committee, Mrs Donovan, Miss O. Powell, Messrs E. W. Donovan and A. Chisholm. New members elected were Mrs Hunt, Misses Coates, K. Howie, Blackburn, Messrs Inder, Melrose, Hall, Southey, Taylor, Simons. General It was decided to open the season on Saturday, October 13, at 2.30 p.m. Taihape is to be invited to send a team on Labour Day. In accordance with notice of motion the subscription was reduced by 10s.
