A message from Orange, New Jersey, reports that Sir George Wilkins in a letter to a local stamp collector, has indicated that he will attempt to beat Commander Byrd across the South Pole. “I will, so far as I can say, and unless accidents happen, be the first to fly the Antarctic and the first and only one to fly acros.? the Sc nth Pole, this or next year,” states Sir George. The collector is paying the airman 15,000 dollars to carry 150 letters addressed to him across the South Pole. The letters will be stamped at. Port Stanley, Falkland Islands, and then will be taken to Deception Island by Sir George Wilkins, and thence across the South Pole and probably to the Bay of Whales.
