COMMUNISTS NOT WANTED IN JAPAN
A SECOND CLEAN-UP [ Australian Press Assn. ] TOKIO, Oct. 4. Communist raids of unknown dimensions were carried out on Wednesday. Local mention is prohibited. It is supposed that the men now arrested are those who escaped the net of the great raid last March. A majority of those formerly arrested are now awaiting trial in November The ceremonies are the cause -of nervousness, accordingly the Government is endeavouring to restrain the liberty of every radical. In Communist raids on Alarch 15 upwards of 700 alleged Radicals were detained. The police acted as a result of evidence of Communist activity at the general election in February, xvhen propagandists preached the revolutionising of Japan and the adopting of a farmers’ and workers’ dictatorship. The Communist organisation was perfected ou December 4, 1926, shortly before the death of the Emperor Taisho, and the Japan branch of the Red Trade Union Internationale was formed in September, J 927. Those arrested included a considerable number of students and university graduates. The Red Trade Union organisation included 400 members, who acted as organisers in 36 provinces.
