POTATOES SCARCE

THE CONTROL BOARD THE LOCAL POSITION The statement made by Air W. S. Glenn in the House of Representatives concerning the high price of potatoes, was confirmed by a local dealer yesterday. He stated that of 50 tons of potatoes delivered at his premises on Thursday morning, there was not one left at noon that same day. f people bought potatoes in small quantities it would greatly assist the traders in the work of distribution. The tubers were now selling at 15s a cwt, and were dearer than the ordinary seed potatoes. Such a demand had been only known twice in the last 30 years. New potatoes, which should be on the market in about a fortnight, should greatly ease the position.
