HERE AND THERE

Dolores Del Rio, the beautiful and charming 4 4 Charmaine ” of 44 What Price Glory” will have the stellar role in the new Fox Films production 44 No Other Woman.” In this production Miss Del Rio is given ample opportunity to wear some striking costumes. She is particularly fond of Spanish shawls, and one in particular she treasures above all others in her collection. This shawl is worn by her as an evening wrap in one of the main scenes of the photoplay. *‘* * *

George Meeker, recently placed under long term contract by Fox Films, is playing his fourth juvenile romantic lead since his advent into pictures under the Fox banner, in 4 4 Chicken a La King.” Meeker created quite a stir with his great portrayal of the youngest brother in 44 Four Sons.” Later he played a young interne in 4 4 The Escape” with Virginia Valli and also opposite Doris Hill in 44 A Thief In The Dark.” 4 4 Chicken A La King” deals with the hilarious adventures of an oldfashioned husband who goes on a rampage and gets scorched in the White Lights of Broadway.

Actors have been directed in almost every tongue, but it remained for Sultan, the Arabian stallion, featured in Fox Films 14 Fleetwing’’ to be directed in Arabic. Ali ebn el Hussein, the stallion’s keeper and trainer, was the mouthpiece for Lambert Hillyer, director of “Fleetwing.” Hussein interpreted Hillyer’s wishes to the magnificent animal, aud the manner in which the stallion responded revealed his superior breeding and intelligence. Barry Norton, Dorothy .Tanis and Ben Bard have the leads in this production.

Mary Astor, the beautiful actress who convinced the film world in 44 Dressed To Kill” that she could do something else than furnish pulchritude to the screen, does even better work in Fox Films new production 44 Dry Martini.” This photoplay has its setting in Paris and concerns the adventures of a father and daughter. Others in the cast include Albert Gran, Jocelyn Lee, Matt Moore, and Hugh Trevor. * * ♦ *

The comedy sequences in 44 Painted Post” Fox Films production starring Tom Mix, are deftly handled by Al St. John, well-known comedian, who has deserted two-reelcrs for dramatic characterisation. St. John enacts the role of Joe Nimble, erstwhile hoofer for a stranded theatrical troupe. Sixteen pretty chorus girls, part of the stranded troupe, supply the feminine pulchritude in the latest Mix thriller, which includes Natalie Kingston, Wampas Baby Star, Philo McCullough and Fred Gamble. * * * •

A truly cosmopolitan cast was assembled by Director Paul Leni in filming “The Chinese Parrot,” the Univer-sal-Jewel. England, Austria., Germany, Finland, Japan and the United States are represented by the all star assemblage of popular screen players, which includes Marian Nixon, Hobart Bosworth, Edmund Burns, Florence Turner, Capt. Conti, George Kuwa, Anna May Wong. Etta Lee, Slim Summerville, Dan Mason, Fred Esmelton, and Edgar Kennedy.

Airplane pictures are quite in favour among the movie-loving public, but had an audience witnessed the filming of “The Phantom Flyer,” Al Wilson’s latest Universal Western air film, they would have seen a near catastrophe that would have satisfied the most critical thrill seeker. Al does a few wrestling tricks on the wing of a plane thousands of feet in the air, and, while thus engaged, a gust of wind came close to taking him off his balance and introducing him to a long drop to earth. Fortunately, Al’ s sense of balance came to the rescue and he has been saved to thrill many more audiences.

Glenn Tryon, with Patsy Ruth Miller is starred in the Universal Production, “A Hero For a Night,’’ is fast becoming known as one of the screen’s great, est comedians. He was first in musical comedy and then in one-reel comedies before he was signed by Universal for feature productions.

4 4 The Rawhide Kid,” one of Hoot Gibson’s latest and best Universal films is a distinct departure from the stereotyped ride’m and gun bn melodrama, the comic side of the land of cactus, cattle .and cowboys being interspersed in a wholesome Western story. The rib-tickling comedy relief is furnished by Harry Todd, with Frank Hagney in the heavy role pursuing his reluctant lady love in the charming person of Georgia Hale. Others in the cast are William H. Strauss and Tom Lingham. The picture was uirected by Del Andrews.
