Mr and Mrs Hartland have been visiting Hawera. Mrs T. H. Rice has returned from Wairoa and Gisborne. Mr and Mrs N. V. Chambers are Rotorua visitors to Wanganui. Miss Molly Anderson (Nahura, Wanganui River), has returned from Auekland. The parents’ association of the Wanganui Technical College held a pleasant card evening on Wednesday. The players were Mesdames W. Veitch, J. Boyd, G. Short, F. Harkness, A. E. Savage, Cowie, Waters, F. Carpentier, Heinold, J. Paterson, Goodey, J. Boyd, W. Veitch, Cowie, Paterson and Carpenter. Miss Kata Johnston, pupil of Miss Church, who was successful in gaining her teachers’ L.A.B. was also successful with her pupil, Miss Pauline Jcnman, who passed the primary division with Honourable Mention. Miss Johnston is to be congratulated on having passed her three diplomas within two years. WEDDINGS HEALEY—RODGEB At St. Paul’s Church, Wanganui, the wedding was solemnised recently by the Rev. J. Paterson, M.A. of Christinia, second daughter of Mrs E. C. Rodger, of Wanganui, and the late Mr Rodger, to Bert, second son ot Mrs F. Healey, of Wanganui, and the late Mr Healey, formerly of Lyall Bay, Wellington, and Wanganui. The church was decorated with arum lil]ies, pink blossom ami bulbs. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Air E. Rodger, wore a Victorian frock with ivory satin bodice, with long sleeves, and full skirt of silver lace and pearl trimming. A veil, orange blossom, and a sheaf of arum lilies and fern completed her costume. Miss Isobel Rodger, sister , of the bride, and Miss Mary Healey, of Wellington, sister of the bridegroom, were bridesmaids, wearing Victorian frocks of mauve silk net, with tight bodices, frilled skirts and mauve crinoline hats with violets and silver. They carried posies of violets. Betty and Jean Batchelor, nieces of the bride, were flower girls, and wore ankle-length .frocks of shell-pink crepe d<e chine, and maize poke ’bonnets, with forgot-me-note and ribbon to tone, an,-] carried posies of forget-me-nots. 31 r F. MISSIONARY UNION The annual meeting of the Wanganui North branch of the Alethodist Alissionary Union was held in the school-room of the Dublin Street Church on September 11. TO-DAY’S RECIPE Iced Cream Cake:—lib flour 4oz. sugar, 1 small teaspoonful baking powder, lib powdered icing sugar, 3 oz. butter. 3 or 4 eggs, a little milk, 2oz cooking almonds or desiccated cocoanut. Put the sugar and eggs into a basin and whisk them till thick. Alelt the butter and when it is cool work it in gradually. Then work in flour by degrees, addingbaking powder last. Put it into a tin lined with greased paper an,d bake in a quick oven until firm. Ice it while it is warm. For icing: Remove all lumps from the sugar and add as much yolk of egg as is necessary to make it stiff. Spread it on the cake with a knife dipped in cold water. Sprinkle with almonds, which should be cut in half length-wise.
