ST. JAMES' PRESBYTERIAN PICNIC »

The annual picnic of the Wanganui East Presbyterian Church was held in ideal weather on Saturday at Longacre, Mr J. (?ray kindly loaning part of his property for the purpose, and supplying fruit for the picnickers, was a good attendance, both of adults and of children, and the arrangements and programme were carried out without a hitch. An unrehearsed item in the tug-of-war furnished no little amusem, eni. This was when a horse and eart were quietly attached to one end of the rope, unknown to the other side, and the horse was started when the tug-of-war began. Needless to say, the “horse’s side” won. During the afternoon the Rev. G. F. Cox returned thanks to all those who had helped to make the picnic a success, especially to Mr Gray* for the use of his land, and Mr Locke for carting water. The carrying arrangments were ably carried out by Messrs Carwell and by Mr Sargent, assisted by private cars of the congregation and friends.
