A few months ago the Soviet Government placed orders with France for two motor tankers of 11,000 tons deadweight .while it is known that several other oil-engined vessels are on the stocks in Russia, where quite a large shipbuilding programme has been decided upon. Two particularly interesting motor ships have been on hand for some time : they are intended for service to London, and have passenger accommodation, besides a substantial amount of refrigerated cargo space. UNDER THE JAPANESE FLAG. Several well-known Australian ships, which have passed into the hands of Eastern companies, were seen by the officers of the St. Albans in Japan this trip. In Kobe the former Indarra, of the A.U.S.N. Company, was lying astern of the St. Albans. She is now named Horai Maru, and trades between Kobe an 4 the island of Formosa. She has been altered considerably since leaving Australia, portions of her upper decks having been cut away to make room for two new hatchways.
