HARBOUR BOARD FINANCES

Sir, —In your report of the Harbour Board meeting in Saturday’s issue, you say in regards to finances:—“The chairman finally stating that a report and special data should be prepared for Mr P. Higginbottom’s benefit.” That is entirely different from what actually happened. In drawing attention to thc finances as disclosed in the monthly report, I compiled a statement of receipts and expenditure as at January 31, 1927, and also as to the £200,000 loan. Th c chairman asked that these figures be not published pending investigation and the chairman. Mr Iligginbottom, and thc secretary were appointed to go into the matter and report. There is no need for special information for the writer, but certainly the Board needs to studv its position. P. HIGGINBOTJOM
