EXPENSES MOUNT UP
ON QUEENSLAND RAILWAYS EFFECT OF SHORTER WEEK. MORE HANDS EMPLOYED. BRISBANE, Sept. 4. In the Assembly the Minister of Railways said that the increase in the number of employees in the Railway Department owing to the introduction of the 44-hour week had been approximately 500. The approximate cost, direct and indirect, was £250,000.
