SCULLING
WORLD’S CHAMPIONSHIP RACE ON MAY 3. Now that articles have been signed, the race for the sculling championship of the world between Alajor Goodsell (holder) and Tom Saul (challenger) will take place on Monday, May 3, over the historic Parramatta course, from Ryde to Searle’s Afonument, writes “Cambridge” in the Sydney “Sun.” The challenger, who hails from the Afacleay River, is much lighter than Goodsell, but is a tough, scientific scul-' lor. He holds the mile championship of Australia, which title he won some time ago on Lane Cove River course. Goodsell competed in this event, but was disqualified for fouling Kent. In addition, Saul carried off the lightweight championship on the same afternoon, but he forfeited the race to George Ceruti (runner-up), preferring to assume the title of mile champion, i It is stated that the champion has received an offer to go to the U.S.A, to coach college crews and give exhibition I rows, and was to have left by the SonTina on March 27. When the challenge from Saul was received his departure was cancelled. If Goodsell goes to the :United States it is possible that some •of the English scullers would issue a •challenge, as the expense would not be so heavy as if the race was rowed in Australia.
I Goodsell may be without the services ■of George Towns, as the ex-world’s 'champion is to go to Brisbane to prepare Arthur Baynes for the Australian iamateur championship.
