COUNCIL’S MONTHLY MEETING. GENERAL BUSINESS. The W T anganui County Council met yesterday. Present: Councillors A. D. Mackintosh (chairman), Broderick, T. Hine, Hamilton, Kennedy, D. McGregor, [D. Ross, D. Mackintosh, and Gregor Mci Gregor. Moving of Fences. A No. 3 Lino settler’s request to be allowed to move, his fence nearer the road in several fillings was favourably considered, the matter being left in the hands of Ihe chairman. Makirikiri Valley Road. Cr. Broderick suggested that further metal should be put on the upper end of the Makirikiri Valley road. It was agreed that metalling should be carried out before the winter. The engineer drew attention to the need for cutting back the gorse on some of the outlying roads. Engineer’s Report. The engineer (Mr. R. D. Toswilb reported on the month’s work as follows: “On the Parapara Road, in the Mangawhero Riding, the work of repairing the washout near the four-mile peg is in hand. Loose metal on Aberfcldy Hill has been raked in and blinded. A 12-inch concrete pipe culvert has been laid near 20M, and other culverts lengthened. ' Grit patching was done between 31 and 33M. T. E. Sutherland has completed his contract for I delivery of gravel for resurfacing from 11 i, 1 AL to 13 4AL, and Lockett Bros, have almost completed their contract for supplying and delivering of crushed metal between the 14 and 22Lmile pegs. A few slips have been cleared and water tables have received attention on Te Hue, Raupau, AVaipapa, Anderson’s and Burrell’s Roads. General maintenance work was done on the AVanganui River Bank including repair and renewals of bush culverts and the removal of slips on the Gentle Annie section. The contractor for erection of the black bridge has mafic a start with the work, the hardwood timber being expected to arrive in AVanganui within a few days. “In the Mangamahu Riding, W. J. Stokes has completed his contract for metalling from 40| to 41$ miles on the River Road. The deck of the Rurutahi suspension bridge has been repaired and the tension rods of a truss bridge in the same locality have been screwed up, and the suspension bridge at MangaImahu township has been repaired. I “I’urua Riding: The contract for sup|ply and delivery of gravel for re-sur-facing Fordell-Mangamahu Road from HIM to 131 M (Reid’s Hill) has been completed. “In the Kaitoke Riding the re-shap-ing ami metalling of No. I Line has been continued. About 700 yards of gravel was laid between Wiritoa bridge and 61M, and several small points were cut back on Marangai Hill. Similar work is now in progress on AVangaehu Hill. The length of road between the 5-mile peg and top of Wangaehu Hill was trimmed with the heavy grader and gravel-patched in roughest places .•
