TESTING OF HERDS
CONFERENCE OF ASSOCIATIONS. At a conference of Co-operative Herd Testing Associations, held in Hamilton on Friday afternoon the following resolutions were carried: I 1 After having considered the various methods of testing now in vogue, this conference of co-operative dairy companies is emphatically of opinion that systematic* group herd testing is the best method and is an essential in the dairying industry. That uniformity of methods and efficiency can be best gained through all co-operative companies supporting one Herd Testing Association. 2 That the directors present recommend their boards that a subsidy of 6d per cow be paid to an organised Group Herd Testing Association, contingent to a suitable subsidy being obtained from the Government. 3 We are of opinion the matter of herd testing is of such vital importance to the community and Government that assistance be sought to enable the farmers to take it up systematically and that a committee be appointed to consider ways and means for puttting the foregoing resolutions into effect. 4 That we recommend to the directors of the N.Z. Co-operative Herd Testing Association that this association be registered if possible under the Dairy Industries Act. 5 That a committee be set up comprising the chairman (if possible) of the 13 co-operative dairy companies in the South Auckland district, together with two members of me New Zealand Co-operative Herd Testing Association, and the chairman, Mr. D. Fulton, ex officio, for the purpose of giving effect to the foregoing resolutions. The date of the meeting was left in the hands of the chairman and general manager to arrange.
