The local wharves were a deserted appearance yesterday. The Calm is due this morning from Wellington, which she left at 6.20 last evening. The Union Company have received a wireless message from the R.M.S. Marama, en toute from San Francisco, via Papeete and Rarotonga, staling that the vessel will arrive in the stream at Wellington at 8 o’clock this morning. The vessel will berth about two hours later. It is possible that the Marama will leave Wellington this evening for Sydney. The Federal Line have been notified by cable that the steamer Leitrim arrived at Liverpool on Tuesday morning last from Lyttelton. The vessel left Lyttelton on June 24th. From Liverpool she proceeds on to Glasgow. A cable message received by the Federal Line states that the steamer Surrey arrived at Boston on August 7th, from Lyttelton. She left Lyttelton on July 9th. For assisting the American steamer Tashmoo in the No.’th Atlantic in April, 1920, the Admiralty Court has awarded the owners of the C. and D. liner Port Stephens, a regular trader between England and New Zealand £lO,OOO with £BOO for the master and £2400 for the crew. The Port Stephens was on a voyage from Melbourne to Hull with a cargo of 7000 tons of frozen meat and general cargo. The Port Stephens towed the Tashmoo for a distance of over 1200 miles, taking her to Queenstown. The weather conditions during the trip with the disabled steamer in tow were very severe. The Port Stephens is now on her way from Barry to New Zealand ports. The R.M.S. Makura is due at Auckland frem Vancouver on August 26, and will leave for Sydney the same evening.
