YOUNG MAN S TERRIBLE DEATH
IMPALED ON A CROWBAR. GISBORNE, August 15. Leslie Jeffers, aged 21 employed on road construction work at Wharelata dropped a crowbar with which he was working on the top of a bank 12 feet above the road. The crowbar stood upright in the soft earth. Jeffers slipped down the bank and became impaled on the bar which went right through his body entering his thigh and coming out at his shoulder-blade. It required the efforts of two strong men to remove me uar. Jeffers was brought to the town hospital and succumbed on Sunday afternoon.
