tPer Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 15. Of six Chinese who arrived by the Tot'ua from Samoa four have been sentenced to life imprisonment and two to seven years for attempted murder of a Chinese interpreter, who was frightfully hacked, maimed for life and lost one eye. Dr. Ahlo, Chinese Consul at Apia, was charged similarly, but on the ground that evidence was all hearsay. Apparently whoever induce! the coolies to commit the crime had used the Consul's name. The Court considered that Dr. Ahlo had acted unwisely in withholding imformation from the authorities.
