THE LATE MR. C. HUTTON
LOCAL BODY TRIBUTES. One more tribute to the memory of the late Mr C. C. Hutton came from another local body yesterday. Before the business of the Wnitotara County Council commenced, the chairman, Cr. W. Morrison, said he had a painful duty .to perform in referring to the, death of Mr C. C. Hutton. From time to time, he said, death had removed those who had been associated with the Council. There were some that could ill afford to be lost, but. seldom was the death of anyone more keenly felt than was the death of the Council’s solicitor. He had been not only a legal adviser, but a personal friendd. Cr. Morrison went on to refer to the splendid character and ability of the deceased whose life would bo an influence for good. Mr Hutton had set a high standard for the legal profession to follow, and young men who were studying law could well take him as a model. Cr. Morrison said words failed him to express what he felt. Cr. J. H. Burnet, who had known Mr Hutton since he had first come to Wanganui, endorsed all that Cr. Morrison had said. Mr Hutton was an example ior all to follow. Haring been associated with him on many local organisations, Cr. Burnet said Mr Hutton had often neglected his own business in the interests of the public. His death would be a severe loss, and his place would be hard to fill. Cr. D. Ross said that as chairman of the Council, it had been his business io meet Mi- Hutton on many occasions, and he could say that ije had never met a man who took more pains in his work. As far as the legal profession was concerned, he was an ornament, and young lawyers would be well advised to follow his example. Mr Hutton was a gentleman both in the Court and out of it, and his death was a loss to the community. There was no doubt, said Cr. Hoss, that had Mr Hutton lived he would have filled the Bench on the Supreme Court. A motion of sympathy with the widow of Mr Hutton was carried.
