AMERICAN TARIFF.
N.Z. PRODUCTS HARD HIT*. (Per Press Association) WELLINGTON. August 15. The president of the Chamber of Commerce stated to-day that the. new American tariff, so stringent as to practically amount to prohibition, affected New Zealand, particularly in the case of wool, meal, cheese and butter. Wool (pnwashed) pays 15 cents per lb; washed wool 20 cents; scoured, 45 cents. This practically prohibited the export of wool to America. The tariff, which is against the whole world outside America, is of the utmost importance.
