Mr. Justice Sastri, who represented India at the Imperial Conference has been appointed a Privy Councillor.

Mr. J. J. Virgo, begins his eighth' world- tour in the interests of the Y.M.C.A., in September, proceeding direct to Melbourne via Capetown (says a London cable.) Mr A. A. Gower and Miss Gower, return to Wanganui to-day after a holiday tour of the Pacific Islands. A Press Association message records the death of Mr. William Bethwaite, a respected resident of Nelson since 1858. A London cable announces the death of two members of the House of Commons, viz., Sir Edward Coates tC-oalition Unionist for West Lewisham ) and Mr W. Tyson Wilson (Labour member for West Houghton Division of Lancashire.) Mr. Walter Stewart Smith, manager of the Palmerston North Working Men’s Club, died suddenly at 5 o’clock on Saturday morning. Mr. Smith was cn duty at the Club on the previous night, and appeared to be in his usual state of health.

Mr G. Heau, of Hean’s proprietary medicines, returned to New Zealand from Australia, with Mrs. Hean, last week Mr Hean has disposed of his interests in the Australian business for a very substantial sum, retaining uis New Zealand and foreign rights. It is Mr Hean’s intention to again take up his, residence in Wanganui and devote greater attention to the New Zealand branch of his business.
