AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS, ETC.

PARAMOUNT MUNICIPAL PICTURES. BILLIE BURKE IN "THE EDUCATION OF ELIZABETH.” "OUT WEST” FEATURING FATTY ARBUCKLE. Hundreds were turned away from the Opera House on Saturday night owing to the fact that capacity was taxed to its utmost, once again demonstrating picture-goers’ appreciation of Paramount programmes and also emphasising the necessity for booking seats early to avoid disappointment. Those who saw Saturday night’s programme were unanimous in their approval and voted the two feature films “the best ever.” In “The Education of Elizabeth” Billie Burke plays the part of the chorus girl heroine and is just as charming, vivacious, and piquantly alluring as ever. She has an aristrocratic, wealthy lover and vowing to “be a lady or bust,” she went to live with his folks, and their heirlooms and—well, the picture must be seen if one wants to know what followed her breaking into society! The comedy situations that arise are delicious, especially where Elizabeth, in her ignorance of high society, delights and shocks her intended husband’s guests with her use of colloquial expressions culled from a life’s experience behind the footlights. Included in the supports is a rattling good comedy. “Out West,” featuring Fatty Arbuckle, which caused a hurricane of laughter. The programme of music rendered by the Paramount Orchestra well merited the hearty applause it received. Patrons would be well advised to book their seats for to-night when the same programme will be submitted for its final screening. TO-MORROW (TUESDAY) NIGHT. To-morrow night, for one night only, will be screened a huge double feature programme, headed by the Maurice Tourneur masterpiece “The Bait.” Vivian Martin will be seen in a delightful little play entitled “An Innocent Adventuress."
