MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
TRADES UNIONS’ CANDIDATB Mr W. R. Nelson addressed a large audience during the interval at the Opera House last night. He thanked, the management for so generously permitting him the use of the stage. [He stated that an industrial cataclysm was hovering over the land, i which made it essential in the interests of seif-preservation that. it»e workers’ representative should hate a seat on the Council. He appealed speciallly to the ladies to vote for the man whom their men friends had chosen for their Trades Unions’ candidate. He promised tliat every-' ione would get a square deal and that the workers’ interests would be safe- ! guarded When Mr Nelson was being ! applauded at the close of his speech ! much interest was evinced at the presence of a black cat in the j Theatre—a sign of good luck! Mrs M. E. Cornyns is a candidate! for both the Borough Council andHospital Board. Mrs Cornyns announces that her aim is careful ad—minis! ration, cautious expenditure, and the promotion of the welfare and progress of the town.
