WANGANUI—PRETTY—PROSPEROUS—PROGRESSIVE.
(To the Editor). Sir,-—I would like to congratulate Messrs A. Harris, H. ■ N. Maunder and Co. in the interest displayed on behalf of the citizens of Wanganui in connection with the proposed hy-dro-electric scheme. The ordinary individual does not consider the great advantage to be gained. Only recently, Sir, I had an opportunity of witnessing a remarkable change in a locality a mile south of the main street of New Brigton, Christchurch, where only a few months ago was a dark, lonely, uninviting spot at night time. Now, Sir, they have the electric light all the way, “and home well lit," at a cost of 4/- per month. Why, Sir, only recently it cost me 2/6 for a 200 candle-power mantle. My advice is, get on with the hydro scheme with all possible haste, and you will not only be conferring a boon on the whole community by better and cheaper light, but will be putting into practise the heading of my’ letter—“Wanganui'— Pretty—Prosperous—and Progressive.”—Yours, etc., F. W. ANSLEY. —_!■» !
