MEETING OE N.Z. TROTTINB BOARD (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 12. At a meeting of the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association, Miss V. Jameson appeared in connection with the Natures Gentleman case. Inquiry was conducted in committee and further consideration was deferred for one month. The president reported that Sir George Clifford would bring the matter of trotting stakes at racing clubs’ meetings before the next meeting of the Racing Conference. The president drew attention to a case which had occurred at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting when the totalisator inspector had refused to allow investments to be returned in the case of a horse that took no part in a race owing to its sulky being- damaged before the start. The president said that although there was a clause in the Gaming Act which might be read in support of the inspector’s contention, the rules of trotting gave stewards power to refund investments in such a case and that power had been exercised in numbers of instances. It was the first time that an official really outside the sport had interfered in .such, and he thought representations should be made to the Minister of Internal Affairs on the subject.—lt was agreed that the matter should be left to the president to make representations to the Minister. The applications of the Otautau and Waimate Trotting Clubs for registration were held over till next meeting. Norbury Park Trotting Club wrote in reply to the association’s letter stating that it was proposed to hold an inquiry into the starting at the club’s recent meeting, and asking the club to .send a representative, stating that as the judicial committee had held an inquiry into the starting of the Empire Handicap and had accepted the starters’ explanation, the club did not consider it necessary to be represented at the enquiry. Mr Samson, being a member of the Norbury Park Club, could take no part in dealing with this matter, and the board was left without a quorum to act. The matter in consequence had to stand over until next meeting, as had the club’s reply to an enquiry as to whether in the Dimlight case the stewards had consdered the interference to be intentional.
