O’CALLAGHAN’S PLIGHT.
Received Jan. 12, 12.30 a.m. WASHINGTON, Jan. 10. The State Dep&rtment has announced that it cannot waive the passport restrictions in the case of O’Caliaghan, there being no reason why exception should be made. In the case of the Mayor of Cork, prominent jurists have announced that they will take the fight to the United States Supreme Court in the effort to prevent the deportation of O’Callaghan. It is pointed out that the exclusion clause in the immigration laws applies only to diseased, mjntal incompetent and anarchists. O’Callaghan’s inability to secure a passport is exclusively due to the British Government.
