MARTON NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) MARTON, January 10. The meeting of the Marton Borough Council called for last ex r ening lapsed (or want of a quorum. After waiting three-quarters of an hour, when there were present the Mayor and Crs Bill and Christensen, the Mayor adjourned the meeting. The Marton Borough Council has received a telegram from the State Advances Office stating that the waterworks loan precedent has been obtained, and will be published in the next issue of the Gazette. If the ratepayers’ consent is obtained the Order-in-Council will be forwarded after the next meeting of the Council. The District Engineer of the New Zealand Railways has written to the Marton Borough Council agreeing to an increase of 1/- per 1000 ft. in the price of gas. Mr E. C. Gaisford presided at a meeting of the Rangitikei Motor Club last evening. It was-decided to charge 2/- admissiop to trfe racecourse for the club’s next meeting. The grandstand charge will be 1 /-. Nominations close on Saturday, sth February.
