SHORT OF COAL
AUCKLAND GAS SUPPLY CURTAILED. (Per Press Association.) ’ AUCKLAND, Jan. 7. Curtailment of the gas supply has again been rendered necessary by tne non-anival of expected coal supplies, and the Auckland Gas Company announce that, as fro ill to-mor-row the gas pressure in the districts outside the city proper will be reduced, except between the hours of 4.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. The Shahristan which has been awaiting a cargo of coal at Newcastle for a month has now been diverted iu load general cargo. The holidays have interfered with supplies from Westport. The earliest shipment promised the Company is not expected to sail from Westport before .Monday. The stocks held at present in Auckland are less than 1000 tons which is sufficient for only about, five days, and curtailment it therefore likely to operate for about a week at least. The coal supplied (o the Company is controlled by the Government control committee iu Wellington.
