AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS, ETC.

THE GRAND. COJH’LETE CHANGE TO-NIGHT. Another complete change will be presented at The Grand to-night, when in “ Sauce lor the Goose,” the ever-delight-ful Constance Talniadge presents what might be termed a culinary comedy of connubial complications. It. is a typical instance of the brand of light, rippling com ?dy that has made her famous, and as the succulent goose in t'he case, she serves up the sauce in her own inimitable piquant fashion. The supports are excellent. To-night The Grand Picture Orchestra will play selections from lolanthe. Reserves should be secured early at Collier’s. PARAMOUNT MUNICIPAL PICTURES. TO-NIGHT, FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY MARGUERITE CLARK IN “LUCK IN PAWN.” A brand new kind of pawnbroker appears in Marguerite Clarke’s Paramount Artcraft Picture, which will be presented at the Opera House to-night. Generally, such a character is represented on the stage and screen as a grasping, selfish person without a heart, who takes advantage of innocent people. Alarvin, Taylor, who wrote “Luck in Pawn,” is convinced there are kindhearted “ uncles," as well as hard-heart-ed ones. With the idea of vindicating in some degree, the much maligned profession. he portrayed Arrnsberg, the I pawnbroker character in the picture, as a sympathetic individual, who helps the heroine out when she is pressed for funds, and even backs her on a certain romantic adventure when she has to shinexout at a fashionable ball given by her niillionaire admirer. The part of Arrnsberg is played by John Steppling and furnishes a thoroughly enjoyable bit in this entertaining picture. HIS MAJESTY’S. (’WEN MOORE TO-NIGHT. One of the best-known and most popular male stars of the screen returns after some months’ absence in a role splendidly fitted to the debonair, carefree manner that is so peculiarly his own. As "Piccardilly Jim,” in his first Seiznick picture, Owen Moore is provided with a role that fits to perfection his marked talent fol’ light comedy of t'he society fsatire type giving him scope for genuine originality and humour. “Piccadilly Jim,” as the story runs, shines as an international gay dog—a man-about-town both in London and New I’ork, entangled in amusing and misleading situations in both sides of tho ocean, and Owen Moore plays the role 'with evident appreciation of its possibilities for- clever, high comedy. The story ‘has dramatic situations and a logical plot, worked out in a logical manner. Owen adds to the humour, dominates the dramatic situations and throughout gives an intelligent workmanlike rendition of the role. The usual supporting programme will include latest Topical, a Pictorial Educator, and a lively comic. Seats may be reserved at Upton's music shop. MISS CECILY TABOR’S RECITAL. The public are reminded of Miss Tabor’s spectacular recital, which takes place on Wednesday next at the Opera House The programme is lengthy and very varied, and intending patrons are promised a real treat at the extraordinary prices of 2s 7d and Is Id. Each performer is a star in his or her special line, and is sure to delight. The dressing is very fine, music catchy, and scenery of Air Slelville’s best. This combination of talent is worthy of firstrate support, not only for the clean programme, but for the vast amount of work, just for the love of helping others, those people do. Miss Tabor is ever ready to assist a good cause. It is unnecessary to mention Mr Melville's work. Nearly everyone knows his ability and talent, which have always been had for the asking in the past. It is safe to say there will be a good 'house for this performance, and when “ Sinbad" is produced it will eclipse all previous efforts. GARDEN FETE. IN AID OF STEWART KARITANE HOME AND PLUNKET SOCIETY. The garden fete to be held at Mr John Stevenson’s residence next Saturday afternoon will commence at. 2p m. There w’ill be produce, plain and fancy stalls, and for which the committee will be pleased to receive donations. There will also be a tulip garden and bran tub.
