He was not opposed to the proposal to inquire in regard to tht Wangaehu. Power for the local tramways was a T-ery important question. He "did not think there was the money available for the proposal Mr Robinson aimed at. He quite agreed' as to the possibility, but it was a question of ways and means. If Mr Poison made a definite proposal to the local authorities they could deal with it. He was afraid if they had to wait 'or the Government they would have to wait indefinitely. 'It was the duty of the Chamber to assist in every way to bring about the results wished in the shortest period. If the Borough Council took the matter seriously and spent the proposed loan of £141,000 judiciously it would be better to expend the money in electrical power than steam. The president said any statement made in his report was founded on good authority. If a satisfactory contract coald be made it should be carried into effect as soon as possible. He did not think the proposals would be made unless they could be fulfilled. The president was tendered a vote Lttiaulis £or bis report.
