"BEAUTY AND THE ROGUE."

NAZIMOVA IN "EYE FOR EYE."
Alia Naziinova, who will be seen jin "Eye for Eye" at His Majesty's [Theatre on Monday night, has become the supreme screen star of the day. Born in Talta, a little Crimean town on the shores of the Black Sea, she was taken to Geneva when a child. While there she showed a remarkable aptitude for music and became a violinest of distinction at the age of twelve. She gave up music as a profession, however, and devoted herself to the study of dramatic art. Immediately upon graduation she became leading woman with a stock company in Kostroma. Russia, and played over 200 parts during her first season. Soon after this she moved to Petrograd, where she appeared in the leading theatres in all prominent rolls, including "Zaza," "Camille," "Magda," "Hedda Gabba/' "Trilby," and "The Second Mrs Tanqueray." She attempted to make a production of * "The Chosen People," a revolutionary play, but was stopped by the Russian censors. It was in this play, however, that she made her first appearance in America, which was produced at the Criterion Theare. During this time she appeared in the Russian language, but at the suggestion of Henry Miller she began to study English and after four short months appeared as "Hedda Gabba" in this language. This is almost inconceivable but true, and it goes to show the genuius and determination of this wonderful woman. Nazimova's career in America has been a series of continuous and tremendous successes which have placed her at the top of the ladder of dramatic and screen fame. Since "War Brides," all her appearances on the silver sheet have been in Nazimova productions, where she has appeared in "Revelation," which has been called a classic by the most notable critics of the day, and "Toys of Fate," another super-screen production. In "Eye for Eye," which is perhaps her greatest achievement and in which she plays the part of Hassouna, a beautiful and fiery Arabian girl, she has added new laurels to her wreath of fame. The box plans for the three nights' season is now at Upton's Music Warehouse.
