The Defence Department has decided that it is advisable to have a military officer attached to district staffs acting in both a military and somi-offlcial capacity in the direct tlon of furnishing help to returning soldiers. To fill this position so far as Canterbury is concerned, the Department has appointed Lieut.-Cql-onel C. B. Brereton. t Colonel Brerfir ton, who has seen service on Gallipoli and in France, will work ' in conjunction with the District Repatriation Board and Returned Sol» diers' Association for the good . p£ returning men. :'
