FURTHER DETAILS OF THE ENCOUNTER.
Received September 3rd, 1.10 a.ni COPENHAGEN, September 2. British torpedoers encountered armed trawlers off Nymendegab, and thte latter, under a,brisk bombardment, were driven ashore near Bjerregaard. Many corpses have been washed up.*- German aeroplanes and submarines participated in the fight.
A Danish official communique confirms the details of the encounter. A Danish warahip was ordered to the scene. The British destroyers withdrew undamaged.
_ Unofficial accounts state that the British pursued tlie trawlers, which grounded' sixty-five yards from the shore. The British then opened a violent fire, whereupon the Germans jumped into the/water, 128 being saved. All the trawler's were. completely destroyed. One aeroplane was shot down. Only two Germans were killed. Several were wounded.
Witnesses state that the trawlers blew up with a great noise, as a number of mines were fitill aboard. Many German warshps and : seaplanes' afterwards visited the- scene.
