SPORTING.

/ NOTES BY "MULTIFORM."

The acceptances received for the Marton J.C. Spring Meeting ar e highly satisfactory, and big fields are assured.

Afoulu has been withdrawn from the Hurdjes, and* Lady Middleton has been accepted for in the Railway and withdrawn from the Marton Handicap. Most of the other Wanganui horses have continued their engagements. The Trial Hack Stakes, with thirty engaged, should result in a record flutter, and this event will take a lot of picking, as the field contains some very highly bred and undeniably fast youngsters. Some of them, however, have other engagamonts din-ing the day. Although there are 14 engaged in the Marton Handicap, there is nothing superlative about the quality of those engaged. There is only 181bs. between the topweight and the minimum, and unless there is a good light-weight near tha bottom, of the list, one or other of the two top-weights should stay the journey right oiit. " The Auckland trainer, J. Williamson, booked space for six horses for Australia, but he has been advised that the required accommodation was not available, and the trip has been abandoned.

Rumours have been afloat for some time that certain country clubs would probably be found willing to hand over their permits to larger clubs which are more favourably situated for the holding of a meeting, says an Auckland writer. While this no, doubt would suit racing men generally. I am in a position to state positively that such a proposal has not the slightest chanc© of getting the approval of the Minister for Internal Affairs, unless something very unforeseen occurs. Clubs contemplating such a step may find themselves in a much worse position than they are at present, if they make application for the change, and would be well advised to struggle on the bast way they can during the war period.
