WANGANUI=WAITOTARA PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the -Management Committee of the above jas^held yesterday. Present: Messrs. 1. 13. Williams (chairman), C L Duigan, H. V. Duigan J. H. Keesing, \. Burnett, A. Robinson, W. A. Collins J. H. Burnet, L. Cohen, Morrison', Parsons, F. Webb Jones, J. Ball G. fcpriggens, J. Hoskings, Jas. Higgle, J.. C. Russell, E. A. Campbell. Colonel Hughes, Mrs. C. E. Mackay. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. O. H. Burnett. C. E. Maekay, H. &. Gr. Harper, .and G. W. Sampson.

Reports.—The reports of the Grants and the Lands and Finance Committees were presented and endorsed. Payments to Soldiers.—Payments and loans to soldiers totalling £19 10s. were approved. *

Accounts. —Accounts to date were passed for payment. Boat Lip Hiyer.—Mr W. P. Aldrid™ wrote suggesting that a boat should be kept at Mangapurua for the use of soldier settlers, in case of accident.— Referred to the Finance Committee, with power to act. ,

Red Cross "Our Day" Appeal.—Mrs. C. L, Mackay said the executive elected to organise the special Red Cross appeal would be glad ol the co-opera-tion of the Association. The appeal was a national one, worthy of the sympathetic support of all classes of the community.—Several members expressed their sympathy with the effort and it was resolved that the members of the Amusement Committee be a sub-com-mittee to co-operate with the "Our Day" Executive; with power to add to their number.

The Navy.—Mr. L. Cohen drew attention to the lecture to be delivered by Mr. Parr, M.P., in Wangamu on Monday, September 17th. in aid of the funds of tile local branch of the Navy League. Mr. Parr was one of the Parliamentarians who had visited England and France, and as he had enjoyed the privilege of a visit to the Grand Fleet his lecture would doubtless be especially interesting. Appreciation.—A great deal of work is done by the ■ secretary on behalf of relatives of men on service aiM the dependents of men who have fallen. This work, which covers inquiries, of all kinds, involves a great deal of correspondence with the various Government Departments. As indicating that this feature of the Association's work is appreciated, the chairman read several letters gratefully acknowledging services rendered. A mother wrote :" I have just received th c notice that my pension has been increased from £1 Is Set per month to £5 8s 4d. My best thanks are due to you for the interest shown on niv behalf, also for getting certificate of death for me. 3' In another letter, relating to a similar matter, the writer expressed the thanks of those interested for "the nelp given so promptly and kindly by yourself in getting the case placed before the proper authorities, and your own kindly personal interest in the matter is very greatly appreciated."
