The up-to-date cargo steamer Roscommon is the latest New Zealand trader to fall! a prey to the, enemy's sea warfare. Few details of the circumstances under which the vessel was sunk have been received, but Auckland merchants have cable* confirming the anonuncement by •:&*> ?nm e Minister that the vessel wa& lost while outward bound from the Old Country. Many people remember the Roscommon as being one of the best-equipped vessels maintaining trade connections between this antf the Homeland. The Roscommon was a steel twin-feorew foarmasted steamei 1 of 7381 tons gross. Built by Workman, Clark and Company, Ltd., the well-known firm of Belfast, she was originally the Oswestry Grange —the steamer on which the Hon. R. J. Seddon died in June of 1906, when bound from Sydney to Wellington. The Rosoommon is registered in Lloyd's list as being a unit of the New Zealand Shipping Ccr.^B fleet, but since then the Union Company had acquired the vessel.
